The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the organizational philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, the College of Nurses (CNO), and all relevant legislation.

 

Education:

 

  • Registered Practical Nursing Diploma or equivalent education to practice at full scope
  • Completion of recognized Medication Administration Course
  • Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS required
  • Coronary Care 1 required
  • Arrhythmia Interpretation preferred
  • NRP preferred
  • Breastfeeding Course preferred

 

Experience:

  • Two years of acute care experience essential
  • Sound knowledge of nursing process and responsibilities of profession
  • Membership in professional association specific to nursing service area
  • Functions independently within scope of practice Competencies:
  • Sound problem solving, communications (oral and written), conflict resolution and decision making skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer literacy in current software applications
  • Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others
  • Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service Other:
  • Ability to learn about, from and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong inter-professional model of care
