Pharmacy Assistant - Hospital Compounding - Mississauga, Ontario

Under the supervision of the Sterile Compounding Supervisor and/or Pharmacist in charge, the incumbent will efficiently maintain inventory, pick, decontaminate, visual inspect, label and pack all batches compounded at the Fresenius Kabi Hospital Compounding facility according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Master Batch Records (MBR’s). The Pharmacy Assistant will possess sound knowledge of pharmacy practices and pharmaceutical technology. The incumbent must demonstrate high integrity and good judgment; never swaying from the goal of service and product quality while compounding products. In addition, the Pharmacy Assistant must have the flexibility to assist other production activities as directed by the Sterile Compounding Supervisor. The work performed is generally of a routine nature. Any issues observed in the cleanrooms and production floor are to be escalated to the supervisor/management/quality team.  



  • Utilizing proper pharmacy practices to pick, visually inspect, label and pack batches as per MBRs.  
  • Maintain proper line clearance at all times during production.  
  • Adhere to staff schedule and ensuring workload needs are met.  
  • Assist pharmacist, when applicable.  
  • Ensure sufficient supplies are available to meet production demands.  
  • Operate and maintain equipment used for production as per SOPs.  
  • Prepare and decontaminate all production components against production documents.  
  • Ensure all in-process verifications are met to drive compliance and high quality standards.  
  • Participate in inventory counts, process validations, and calibration when applicable.  
  • Responsible for maintaining organization during all activities throughout the grade D areas.  
  • Ensure that proper handling of waste materials is disposed of as per standard operating procedures.   



  • Pharmacy Technician diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution or post-secondary education in science or related field.  
  • Minimum 1-2 years of pharmacy or pharmaceutical industry experience.  
  • Must have the ability to work all shifts (i.e. morning and evening shifts, weekends and statutory holidays).  
  • Ability to work in a face paced work environment.  
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with excellent team-work habits.  
  • Excellent attendance record; organization skills and problem solving skills.  
  • Must be able to understand and comply with standard operating procedures.  
  • GMP and USP 797 knowledge.  
  • Hospital or retail pharmacy experience.  
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.  
  • At least two years’ experience in a sterile compounding environment.
