Complementing these programs are outstanding facilities, including the Krembil Neuroscience Centre. 


The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) having a specialty-based focus, functions in an expanded nursing role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately care for patients with acute/chronic illness and promote wellness.  The principal responsibilities of the General Internal Medicine (GIM) CNS position will include: coaching, mentoring and supporting staff in the continued development of advanced clinical skills, critical decision making and patient centered care. Works closely with the Health Care Team on the GIM Unit to advance specialty knowledge in the complex medical/surgical issues and care of the older adult population.  The CNS plays a leadership and change agent role in the advancement of nursing practice and standards; supports the implementation of best practices in the care of patients within GIM; performs quality improvement and administrative responsibilities; performs research activities; delivering, coordinating and participating in education in conjunction with the Advanced Practice Nurse Educator; performs professional development activities/programs, including input into PES processes on the units. Performs activities to further develop and strengthen the profession; serves as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies; performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as required.




  • Completion of a masters degree in Nursing or recognized equivalent
  • Five (5) years experience in an acute care center with clinical medical/surgical nursing
  • CNA Specialty certification in Gerontological nursing preferred
  • Completion of Diabetes Education program preferred
  • Completion of advanced wound care education required
  • Experience in nursing research methodology
  • Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution
  • Current certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) and other organizations relevant to the role
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
